RIVERSIDE, CA — Norma Berrellez, a 30-year educator, Alvord Unified School District Trustee, and lifelong community advocate, today announced her candidacy for Riverside City Council representing Ward 6.
“I have spent my entire career serving the families, students, and neighborhoods of Riverside,” said Berrellez. “Ward 6 deserves a councilmember who knows this community, who has earned its trust, and who will fight every day to improve the quality of life for every resident. That’s why I’m running.”
Berrellez’s career in public service spans more than three decades. She began as a Spanish teacher before serving as a high school administrator and, most recently, as a Trustee for Alvord Unified School District. She has also served on the City of Riverside’s Community Police Review Commission, where she worked to strengthen trust and accountability between law enforcement and residents.
Her campaign will focus on four key priorities for Ward 6: repairing roads and investing in infrastructure, supporting public safety and first responders, expanding housing options for veterans and seniors, and strengthening partnerships between the City and local schools.
“From Arlanza to La Sierra to Arlington, our neighborhoods deserve responsive city services, safe streets, and a council member who actually listens,” Berrellez said. “I’ve lived here, raised my family here, and served this community for four decades. I know our challenges, and I know our strengths.”
Berrellez is running as an independent voice for Ward 6, emphasizing accountability and transparency at City Hall.
